James R. Bigbee

Associate

Attorney James R. Bigbee focuses his practice on litigation in family law and criminal defense.

James is a native Arizonian, having lived in Phoenix for most of his adult life. James obtained his undergraduate degree from Arizona State University, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Post-graduation, James decided to become a “double devil”, receiving his law degree from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. James graduated Sandra Day O’Connor with a high pro bono distinction through his volunteer work at the Arizona Legal Center providing legal assistance on a wide range of civil matters, as well as his work as a director at the Homeless Legal Assistance Project where James helped connect the homeless population of Phoenix with attorneys who could address their legal needs. Additionally, James received real-world practical experience working while in law school at the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office and at a local criminal defense firm.

As an attorney, James worked first with the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office and then with the Yavapai County Public Defender’s Office. This unique insight into both sides of the courtroom, along with James’ undergraduate degree in Psychology, gives James a strong understanding of people. Though cliché, with knowledge, comes power, and it is through understanding the people aspect of the courtroom that James knows how to best navigate through what can be, but need not be, a stressful process.

James is licensed to practice law in all state courts in both Arizona and New Mexico. As a licensed attorney, James has handled hundreds of cases, dozens of bench trials, and nearly a dozen jury trials. James also has extensive experience handling involuntary mental health commitment proceedings.

In his spare time, James enjoys reading novels, hiking with his wife, and spending time with his dog and cat, Oliver and Taffy.
